tips for selling online.

Selling online is a lot of fun. I have mentioned many a time that I love sending parcels off to homes near and far and although you don't get to meet your customers, you can have great conversations with them online before and after they purchase from you.
There is a lot of work involved though, especially with vintage. From the moment I decide to put an item for sale online, there's about twenty things I have to do before the postman comes knocking at the customer's door. There's some cleaning, measuring, photographing, weighing, pricing, uploading, describing and wrapping all before I make the trip to the post office. 
For anyone thinking of selling online, don't be discouraged by this long list. It's actually a lot of fun (most of the time!) and it's even more enjoyable when a happy customer emails you to tell you they love their dress and they're never taking it off!
So here are my tips for selling online:

1. Only sell good quality items and be truthful in your description. It's only fair really and you want happy customers, not angry, upset ones!

 2. Think ahead. So you need a certain amount of things to post your items. Tissue paper, bubble wrap, envelopes, sellotape, even a scissors. Make sure you're stocked up before you start listing your items as you want to be known for your speedy deliveries!

 3. Be personal. Because you generally don't get to meet your customer when the transaction happens, include a little note with their purchase thanking them. I know I love handwritten notes with mine. Who wouldn't really?!

4. Own up to your errors and fix them promptly. You send the parcel out a week late, you didn't spot the stain on a shirt. Whatever it is you did wrong, let the customer know you're sorry first of all, then try to make it up to them in whichever way you both see fit. A discount, a refund or a free gift.

 5. Put your stamp on it. Whether you're clearing space in your wardrobe and selling on Ebay or you have set up a small business, make sure the whole package you send off has an air of you to it. Whether you put confetti inside the parcels or you use neon pink envelopes, you never know where this thing will take you so create your identity at the start.

Selling online isn't for everyone but if it's for you and you've the time and tools to do it, just go for it!
